In Punjab, it is important to promote Micro Irrigation systems which give irrigation efficiency as high as 80%-90% in case of Drip irrigation and 60%-70% in case of Sprinkler irrigation in comparison of normal irrigation efficiency of 30%-40%.Punjab Government has been providing total assistance @ 80% of actual market cost of Micro Irrigation to farmers. Additional top-up subsidy over and above RKVY has been provided out of ‘Project for Promotion of Micro Irrigation (NABARD-RIDF-20)’. Additional 10% subsidy is also provided to Women, Small/Marginal and SC farmers. There is no maximum ceiling of area and additional subsidy burden is met out of RIDF-20 project. MI systems include Drip and Sprinklers. Sprinklers Irrigation Systems cover Micro Sprinklers, Mini Sprinkler, Portable Sprinklers, Semi-permanent Sprinklers and Large Volume Sprinklers (Rain Guns) on all types of Horticulture and Agriculture crops.
